My first Murakami book was "A Wild Sheep Chase," and I have since read everything he has had translated into English (including the early "unauthorized" translation of Norwegian Wood.) I love his stuff, but I have to say nothing has compared the wonder and joy of stumbling upon AWSC. I think probably because it was the first of his books I read, and I knew nothing about Murakami when I picked it up.<br /><br />I suspect that the movie, as you describe it, might be hard to follow if you haven't read the book. So much of Murakami's stories take place inside the heads of his characters it is a little hard to imagine a movie version.
